Pacha Manga Chammanthi/ Raw Mango Chutney ~ Kerala Style

Pacha Manga Chammanthi is a lipsmacking chutney prepared from raw mango/green mango. This chutney is a traditional accompaniment from Kerala cuisine. A quick and simple preparation, this chutney is a perfect combination with some rice gruel/pej.


1 raw mango, Large, peeled and chopped into pieces
4 shallot onions
2-3 curry leaves
1/2 inch ginger, roughly chopped
1 and 1/4 cup grated coconut
3-4 red chillies
Salt to taste


Wash and clean the mango. Remove the skin and chop into pieces. Add chopped raw mango pieces, red chillies, chopped ginger, curry leaves, shallots and salt in the mixer vessel. Grind it coarsely without adding any water. Now add grated coconut and grind it again to a coarse paste. Remove from the mixer vessel and serve this tasty chutney with rice kanji or idlis/dosas. I serve it as an accompaniment with chappatis too.


  • You can alter the coconut and raw mango proportion as per the sourness of the mango.
  • You can adjust the amount of chillies and use green chillies in place of red chillies according to your preference.
