Ingredients
2 apples, washed, peeled and cored [ I have used 1 Granny Smith green apple and 1 Royal Gala red apple, you may use any apples of your choice/your family prefers ]
Lemon juice enough to coat the apple cubes
2 fresh green chillies, finely sliced or crushed [ I found some fresh red chillies amidst green while buying them this time so used 1 green and 1 red]
2 cups full fat thick yogurt
1/2 cup water
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste
Finely chopped coriander leaves
Handful of raisins [soaked in warm water]
For seasoning:
1 tsp ghee
1 tsp of mustard seeds
1/2 tsp asafoetida powder
Few curry leaves
1 tbsp of raisins
For garnish
Coriander leaves [optional]
Method:
Whisk the yogurt with water in a bowl. Add drained raisins, crushed/ finely sliced chillies, finely chopped coriander leaves, salt to taste, sugar to taste. Mix well and keep it aside.
Wash apples, peel and core it. Chop into small cubes. Smear it with a little lemon juice [to prevent from discoloration, this step can be excluded if you decide to dice apples and add to the yogurt mixture just before serving]. You may also grate the apples instead of chopping. If you prefer to keep the skin of the apple, go ahead. Add it to the above yogurt mixture
Prepare the seasoning with ingredients mentioned above and pour it over the salad. Let it sit for 5 mins, stir well. Enjoy eating this refreshing salad as it is or serve it as an accompaniment to plain steamed rice, chappatis or variety rice.
Happy cooking!
